Here is my entry for day 6 of the #zionlargeformatbattle with @alanbrockimages. I shot this photo back in 2015 while exploring some chaotic washes in Zion. These washes are filled with so many amazing colors, textures, and they are an absolute feast for the eyes — but that also makes them incredibly difficult to photograph. With this composition, the large pine tree in the background, and the showy maple on the right caught my eye, and I tried my best to give order to the chaos.

This photo was taken on @kodak @kodakprofessional Ektar 100 8x10 color negative film with my Ebony large format view camera.

This image was one of many taken during my recent workshop to the Isle of Skye and Glencoe (+ surrounding areas) (See the YT video here - https://youtu.be/bM9bdAPs68M)
My YouTube video was all about real Landscape Photography Tips. I mention 26 of them.
I have 30 favourite images from the trip. I WILL POST 1 A DAY please follow to see them all.

My intention for the film was to discuss tips I had been offered by my Facebook group (http://tinyurl.com/hctawre) During the filming, I read them out and then briefly discussed their credibility. Moreover, did I agree with them or not.
It's a light-hearted video as my favourite 2 tips indicate. One of them was food orientated and the other was a sexist tip! Intrigued? Watch the video and let me know what you think.

All the best and thank you for your continued support xx Interested in WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY? see my new IG channel (search: gary_gough_weddings) #photography #landscapephotography #landscape #nature #naturephotography #ig #travel #travelphotography #photooftheday #sunset #naturelovers #photooftheday #tips #photographytuition #ig_landscape #dream_spots #landscapephoto #landscape_lover #earth_shotz #theworldshotz #discoverglobe #landscapelover #landscapelover #fiftyshades_of_nature #ourplanetdaily #isleofskye #isleofskyescotland #isleofskyephotographer

Alberto Burri, Grande Cretto, 1981-2015
.
In January 1968, an intense earthquake shook the region of the Belice valley in western Sicily, causing the death of many of its inhabitants and leaving even more of them homeless. The old town of Gibellina was destroyed to the point to which it was deemed irreparable and a new town was built a few kilometres away.
.
A group of artists and architects were invited to contribute their work to Nuova Gibellina. After seeing the devastation of the old town of Gibellina in his visit in 1981, with the ruins of the old homes still there 20 years later, he proposed to build a piece of land art in the heart of the disaster instead. It would become a memorial of the devastating effects of the earthquake, while establishing a connection with the artist’s own work.
.
During the late 60s and early 70s, Burri had produced a series of paintings called Cretti inspired by the pattern of the naturally cracked soil of the desert of Death Valley, in California.
.
“Comprising solely of a monochrome surface of thickly encrusted paint that has been encouraged to crack and breakup into an assisted natural pattern, they are, like most of Burri's works, seemingly authorless and self-defining entities that elegantly articulate their own inherent material nature as a pictorial surface. As such, these fascinating and often surprisingly beautiful works are also startling graphic portraits of the unpredictable forces of nature operating within the logic and the structure of 'painting'.”
.
The large-scale Cretto he projected for Gibellina became an acknowledgement of those unpredictable forces of nature. The homes of hundreds, reduced to piles of rubble no one had bothered to remove, became the filling of large blocks of white concrete. The cracks, in this case, had the size of narrow streets and its disposition responded to the situation on which the ruins had been found.

Thank you to all of the armed forces that have given us the freedom to live our lives to the fullest! I’ve been reflecting a lot lately on where my passion for photography comes from. All I’ve surmised is that I really need more green, lush waterfalls in my life, more often. It’s important to find balance in life, as I’m learning lately. Here’s an image taken on a solo soul searching trip last year and I hope you enjoy it! Standing at 6’2”+ and not exactly thin, contorting myself in position to shoot this very near/far composition was extremely challenging. This image required focus stacking due to my proximity to the rather small leaves used effectively here as an anchor in my foreground! On another note, but slightly related I will be launching a couple of new workshops over the next couple of weeks including “Wonders of Iceland ~ Waterfalls and Dancing Skies” where for 7 days we will visit some of the most amazing waterfalls and incredible mountains dressed in their autumn best and hopefully witness the aurora borealis dancing overhead! This workshop will include double occupancy lodgings around the southern coast as well as transportation! Like all of my workshops this one will emphasize creativity, connecting with nature and immersing yourself in photography with other like minded and creative folks. Limited to 6 students and will first be released to my alumni, as always! If there’s any space left, or if you’d like to be added to the waiting list please send me a DM or use the link in my bio to visit my website! =========================================

On November 20, 7pm PST, at SCI-Arc in Los Angeles, ‘Fear and Wonder 3: Futures of AI’ joins an ensemble of directors, concept artists, video game designers, and storytellers for an expedition through an atlas of imaginary worlds, fictional cities, and speculative geographies. Curated by Liam Young, SCI-Arc faculty and coordinator of the EDGE MS Fiction and Entertainment program, this symposium will explore contemporary representations of artificial intelligence in film, television, and global culture on the occasion of November 2019, the date Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner was originally set. Guests whose work spans science fiction-adjacent productions such as #Westworld, #BladeRunner2049, and #RickandMorty will be in dialogue with theorists and technologists to investigate where the science ends and fiction takes over.
Guests include Concept designer for Blade Runner 2049 George Hull, Supervising Art Director for Westworld Jon Carlos, Personality Architect for Microsoft’s Cortana Deborah Harrison, Animation director for Rick and Morty Domonic Polcino, Director of USC’s MxR lab and former principal filmmaker for VR at Google Jessica Brillhart, Writer and artist Ingrid Burrington, Artist and Programmer Lauren McCarthy, Director of Google’s Artists and Machine Intelligence Group Kenric McDowell, Creative Technologist Ross Goodwin and more. Last night we celebrated the winners of the @institute_architects_aus 2019 National Architecture Awards in Brisbane. The collection of awarded projects demonstrate that to create a rich and lively public realm, it is imperative that designers consider the larger framework of culture and city-making, rather than prioritizing the individual architectural act or project. Warm congratulations to all those practices that have received this recognition.
