Today on The Local Project, we explore the Daylesford Long House by @partnershill, which references the Palladian tradition of combining living, working, storage and making under one enormous roof structure. 🌿

Essentially one long shed, the form and its metal clad veil is reflective of the project’s agricultural roots and the setting it finds itself in, with altering transparency and various punctuations depending on the internal functionality.

I just arrived at my stay for tonight, it's an old castle in the middle of nowhere in Germany. And mid November is so off season here that I have it completely for my own.
Spooky or not? 👻

Today I want to feature a place which most of you have probably heard of, but I’m guessing only a few of you have actually visited.
⠀⠀
Unlike yesterday’s destination, this one is very easy to reach, however, it happens to be overshadowed by a much more popular neighbor, Venice.
⠀⠀
I’m talking about the city of Padua (or Padova in Italian).
⠀⠀
Padua is only a 20 minute train ride from Venice. Of the 20,000,000 people who visit Venice every year, only a small faction ever bother to make the short trip to Padua. The cost of a ticket from Venice to Padua can be had for as little as €3.55 ($4), and trains leave at least once or twice and hour all day long.
⠀⠀
Why take the time to visit Padua?
⠀⠀
1. Padua has the largest city square in Europe. The Prato della Valle is a 90,000 m2 square in the shape of an oval, which is surrounded by 78 statues of famous citizens. ⠀⠀
2. It has the world’s oldest botanical garden. The Orto Botanico di Padova was found in 1545 and today is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The garden is small by today’s standards, but it is open to the public. ⠀⠀
3. One of the finest decorated churches in Europe. The Scrovegni Chapel has an interior which is covered in frescos by the artist Giotto. Completed in 1305, the number of visitors allowed to enter daily is limited. Visitors must first enter a climate controlled, airlock room to prevent temperature fluctuations in the church. During the temperature acclamation period, you watch a video about the history of the church. Make sure to book your tickets in advance.
⠀⠀
4. One of the most significant churches in Italy. The Basilica of Saint Anthony of Padua is the resting place of the saint, and is one of only eight national shrines in the world recognized by the Vatican.
⠀⠀
5. One of the best Astronomical clocks in Europe. You might be familiar with the famous clock in Prague. Pauda has one of their own in the Piazza dei Signori.
⠀⠀
6. One of the oldest universities in the world. The University of Padua is the 5th oldest surviving university in the world. Noted faculty have included Galileo and noted alumni include Copernicus.
⠀⠀
Yes, Venice is very beautiful, but it is also extremely crowded. Try Padua
