So... instead of getting into the fortress (we hiked up to the back of the fortress, where there is no entrance 🤦‍♀️) we found some pretty cool ruins 😅

Today I want to feature a place which most of you have probably heard of, but I’m guessing only a few of you have actually visited.
⠀⠀
Unlike yesterday’s destination, this one is very easy to reach, however, it happens to be overshadowed by a much more popular neighbor, Venice.
⠀⠀
I’m talking about the city of Padua (or Padova in Italian).
⠀⠀
Padua is only a 20 minute train ride from Venice. Of the 20,000,000 people who visit Venice every year, only a small faction ever bother to make the short trip to Padua. The cost of a ticket from Venice to Padua can be had for as little as €3.55 ($4), and trains leave at least once or twice and hour all day long.
⠀⠀
Why take the time to visit Padua?
⠀⠀
1. Padua has the largest city square in Europe. The Prato della Valle is a 90,000 m2 square in the shape of an oval, which is surrounded by 78 statues of famous citizens. ⠀⠀
2. It has the world’s oldest botanical garden. The Orto Botanico di Padova was found in 1545 and today is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The garden is small by today’s standards, but it is open to the public. ⠀⠀
3. One of the finest decorated churches in Europe. The Scrovegni Chapel has an interior which is covered in frescos by the artist Giotto. Completed in 1305, the number of visitors allowed to enter daily is limited. Visitors must first enter a climate controlled, airlock room to prevent temperature fluctuations in the church. During the temperature acclamation period, you watch a video about the history of the church. Make sure to book your tickets in advance.
⠀⠀
4. One of the most significant churches in Italy. The Basilica of Saint Anthony of Padua is the resting place of the saint, and is one of only eight national shrines in the world recognized by the Vatican.
⠀⠀
5. One of the best Astronomical clocks in Europe. You might be familiar with the famous clock in Prague. Pauda has one of their own in the Piazza dei Signori.
⠀⠀
6. One of the oldest universities in the world. The University of Padua is the 5th oldest surviving university in the world. Noted faculty have included Galileo and noted alumni include Copernicus.
⠀⠀
Yes, Venice is very beautiful, but it is also extremely crowded. Try Padua

Helsingin Kallio: kiitos 10 yhteisestä vuodesta - taipaleemme päättyy tänään ja tästä siirrytään aluksi muutaman metropysäkin verran kohti maaseutua.
Viimeiset pari kuukautta kylpyhuonesaneerausten keskellä asuneena tuntuu aivan taivaalliselta saada vihdoin oma vessa käyttöön! 🙏

Those Top End Tropical Summer sunrises 💕 @ntaustralia
We headed out to Fogg Dam Conservation Park just outside of Darwin and boy did the sky put on a show for us. The trees pictured here are North Australia’s native Pandanus and the bird life in this reserve was incredible. I lost count how many different kinds of feathered friends I saw, but I was blown away.
It was less than an hour to get to this post but felt a world away, love places that make you feel like that

My thoughts are with all those affected by the bushfires at the moment 🐨 😢🙏

Nothing but the classics... It’s all well and good to step out from the norm. But sometimes the norm at select locations are the best. This was taken with the @dreamphotographyworkshops Iceland crew after waiting it out in wind and rain to get a smattering of alrightish light.

Ivan Harbour, senior design partner, RSHP "I am so saddened to hear of Charles Jencks' passing . He was a huge influence in my early career and a delightful client. His architectural legacy, delivering his and Maggie’s vision is unmatched and an inspiration to us all. I am honoured to have been a part of that journey, which has a special place in my heart. As a student of the Bartlett School in 1980, Charles was the architectural polemicist of the moment. He was an inspiration to me and my colleagues as we looked to the future, naively interpreting post-modernist characteristics to embellish our designs, in a teaching environment then shaped by Brutalism and the International Style. To finally meet your hero 20 years later, as we embarked on what would become Maggie’s first London centre, was initially a terrifying but quickly enjoyable experience. Charles was a formidable and generous critic who, as our client, subtly influenced the evolution of this most human of buildings."
