As this semester kicks off I have one last reflection to share on my summer in Alaska - This is the terminus of the Knife Creek glacier in Katmai National Park. Its light brown color comes from the thick sheet of volcanic pumice that has covered it since 1912. This insulating layer has helped to ensure that the Knife Creek glacier is amongst the slowest to melt in all of Alaska. The record-breaking string of 80+ degree days seen this summer kept countless tiny waterfalls like this one flowing out of it for months, long after the past winter's snowfall disappeared. I'm thankful for having gotten to enjoy so many awesome adventures over the course of the summer, but really saddened by the clear reality that this landscape will continue to change drastically in the coming years. The melting of landlocked glaciers like this one results in the rapid erosion of soils otherwise stable enough to withstand normal weather patterns. These streams flow towards bodies of fresh water, cutting
Word is out that the Cannery site was officially nominated to become part of the San Francisco Maritime Historical District! Last week I joined the @nncanneryproject while filming a documentary that tells the long and colorful history of this place. Many of these structures are more than a century old and are covered in hand-drawn signs and grafito created by the countless people who came from around the world to work here. Looking forward to delving more into this story with some 360° VR! #findyourpark #bristolbay #maritime #history #preservation

Goodbye Barcelona, I never expected to fall so in love! The highlight of my trip was getting to check out the Basilica de la Sagrada Familia... After 120 years this enormous architectural masterpiece by Antoni Gaudi continues to be a work in progress. #barcelona, #sagradafamilia #gaudiarchitecture
