I spent the past few days back in Banff working on a little video project. It’s always special going back to a place that had such an enormous impact on me and my career and finding my passion for mountain culture. I called this town home for nearly eight years. This trip was short but sweet, until next time...

[ Frozen Creek ]
.
It can be a struggle to get away with original photos when travelling to popular and well visited places like Lofoten in Northern Norway.
I managed to capture an original composition within one of the frozen fjords along the eastern side of the archipelago. I have not seen any photos from this place before! The frozen creek made up for a fantastic leading line into the morning sun. Exploring unknown areas will often bring you great rewards!

Alberto Burri, Grande Cretto, 1981-2015
.
In January 1968, an intense earthquake shook the region of the Belice valley in western Sicily, causing the death of many of its inhabitants and leaving even more of them homeless. The old town of Gibellina was destroyed to the point to which it was deemed irreparable and a new town was built a few kilometres away.
.
A group of artists and architects were invited to contribute their work to Nuova Gibellina. After seeing the devastation of the old town of Gibellina in his visit in 1981, with the ruins of the old homes still there 20 years later, he proposed to build a piece of land art in the heart of the disaster instead. It would become a memorial of the devastating effects of the earthquake, while establishing a connection with the artist’s own work.
.
During the late 60s and early 70s, Burri had produced a series of paintings called Cretti inspired by the pattern of the naturally cracked soil of the desert of Death Valley, in California.
.
“Comprising solely of a monochrome surface of thickly encrusted paint that has been encouraged to crack and breakup into an assisted natural pattern, they are, like most of Burri's works, seemingly authorless and self-defining entities that elegantly articulate their own inherent material nature as a pictorial surface. As such, these fascinating and often surprisingly beautiful works are also startling graphic portraits of the unpredictable forces of nature operating within the logic and the structure of 'painting'.”
.
The large-scale Cretto he projected for Gibellina became an acknowledgement of those unpredictable forces of nature. The homes of hundreds, reduced to piles of rubble no one had bothered to remove, became the filling of large blocks of white concrete. The cracks, in this case, had the size of narrow streets and its disposition responded to the situation on which the ruins had been found.

My favorite photos for engagement sessions in Paris are always the intimate ones we get to capture at cafes. It truly reflects the soul fo the city and allows to embrace your Lover. And of course a good opportunity to grab a hot “Chocolat Viennois” for me which doesn’t hurt ;) Alisson and JR looking like movie star here at Parisian terrace.

The sunsets are finally coming back to SD.

I got a bit soaked tonight catching the sunset. It turns out while the waves weren't that high, the shape of rocks where I was standing channeled the water up into the air. Left side was completely wet but right side was dry.

This is Garbage Beach in sunset cliffs. I just love the way the wet rocks pick up the colors from the sky.

Ran into @jeremynoyesphotography. Check out his feed, he's in this picture if you can find him!

Paper-being

Interviewee:
Nida Ekenel

What questions does the project raise and which does it address?

I would say, all the issues are around this main question: what could be a shrewd reason to live together in the present? It seems problem occurs when we perceive ourselves being on this world rather than of this world [4]. When it comes to possession we are insatiable, but we deify ourselves from actually belonging to this world. When current cities are primarily built upon human activity, our reasons of staying together don’t make sense. However, if we consider the ecosystem as a more diverse integrity with all the living and non-living including ourselves, we could find a thorough connection for existence. Thus the outdated idea that human beings are encroachments for the nature therefore they should be separated – being imprisoned in the cities, apartment cells etc. – is initially a problematic approach because it operates on the assumption that humans are not of this world.
Then other questions come to one’s mind; how do we rediscover our nature to be of this world? One possible answer is to, live like the older times when humans were not ruling the world and were aware of its strong connection. The other would be assuming we are living in a complete different system. However, the first would be ignoring the ever developing civilization like a Luddite.. and the second to shun all the difficulties of reality and built another utopia.
Here, I concentrated what architecture could do for this issue. I thought a new prelude, in fact, would lead us to a different end. This was when paper-being came to existence, to start a parallel evolution. Thus the project became an experiment of subverting the urban process. Instead of starting the life by human activity, it could start by something far-less anthropocentric [5] and built all its connections till human beings…In this way, we could have a different story. #art #architecture #koozarch #artitecture

I have no idea what moments are waiting for me around the next curve of this road I’m on... And I may end up being completely wrong... But every little tingle in my spirit says that 2020 is going to be a phenomenal year. Absolutely phenomenal. If it isn’t, one thing is for sure... It won’t be because I didn’t pour a massive amount of passion, determination, energy, creativity and love into it. So yes... 2020 is still a bit away but I’m more than ready for it. 🧡
